Yesterday I was organizing my house and I got some photos to share. See how difficult is to be only crafty? I love my plants. My favorites are the succulents. I don't have more space for so much! I also like these amaryllis and any flower that grows off bulbs. I have a kalanchoe plant since 2005. I bought at the grocerie store and that thing keeps growing and bloom every year!
Some are blooming now...
Get closer...
And closer...
This one has a very hard life...
Her name is Naninha. She is very important for me since I adopted her 10 years ago when she was wandering in the street, a little baby, so starving. My parents did not like cats at that time, but I had to keep her with me and today I am glad to tell you how they miss Naninha. They became cat lovers and my dad had a cat after I came to The US (unfortunately a neighbor killed the cat - horrible person). I believe that animals can help to heal people. Her company makes me happy! I don't like when people say things like "I hate cats", it's too much for me. I don't like to hear. It's very frustrating. It's ok do not like, but hate is a word that I avoid at the most! I don't have dogs, I am a cat person, but I don't hate dogs. I love animals.
This is the office's window. From this room I blog...
Those tea cups are vintage ones given by mother in law. I decided to use them to plant my succulents.
My husband got this duck a long time ago...
Mood board is finally organized...it was a big mess!
Latest acquisitions...I am not sewing anything at the moment, but when I see gorgeous fabric I am not able to resist!
Well people, that's all for now and I don't know when I am coming back. If you don't hear from me soon, I wish you a great Thanksgiving day.
I still have photos that I never showed here. Before Fall ends, let me show them to you...
Actually these photos I took last month...
A nursery in town hosted a fall festival. My son scratches the head of the chicken and this little girl was so protective to it...reminds my childhood as I had a chicken as a pet.
How could I resist to this song? Thanks to her as she has posted on her blog. I was cleaning our office last evening when it played on the radio, but I did not get to hear the singer's name.
I always look for the videos of the songs I like over the web and surprisingly, I found it. Guess what? It was made in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. My city. I just loved to watch it. It ends in Samba, of course! Yay!
Here is the lucky winner for this book (click on the link to see it): Amanda. Please, I need your address.
I used Random Number Generator to pick one number. At this time I had 13 participants that answered the question correctly. Yes, I am 35 years old. Thanks for those generous souls that said I am 25,26 and 27!!! You guys are awesome!
The first person that left a comment is number one, so Amanda is number 4.
I still have more books to give for free...how lovely, hu?! Come back!
Warm day, nice to clean my little garden, preparing the soil for tulip bulbs. Another day we had some snow which was a surprise for me, because I wasn't watching the weather report. My children got really excited about the snow. So earlier this year. All has melted away.
They made a snow man...lots of fun!
And I made another cushion. First, I show you wip photos...come back later to see it ready. I am using 2 different fabrics. For the back, this embroidered linen that I've found at Joann sometime ago. I've added some green stitchings to the leaves. Just a little bit! For the front, a brown natural linen that Nathalie sent to me as a gift.
This vintage doily was purchased at a local shop and I've dyed it on stovetop with Rit Dye (Kelly Green 32). Are you wondering why it has two shades of green? I guess the pale green is not pure cotton. Rit doesn't work well on some fibers.
When I was younger I did not like these doilies. For me they were just old fashioned . Now I am getting older!! Haha! Just kidding! I like this vintage modern trend. I would not use doilies on top of my furniture for example, but I might change my mind. I like using it in an unique way. Have you seen these before? Aren't they cute? How about this? I also like doilies as coasters. Doilies made of paper to wrap bottles or jars, maybe? A bag addorned with a doily, perhaps? What's your ideas for doilies? Would you like to show me? You are more than welcome! Post your ideas or links to your creative doily use.
Hey, I am so sorry I did not post this on Sunday...I am a busy bee and also very distracted person. I probably have some sort of attention spam!!
Anyway, here is the book. To enter you must answer one question. Simple and quick. How old am I? No guessing. Again, if you search (files) the first 5 months of this year, you will find a post where I reveal my age, without shame. It's bold and big. Easy peasy!
At this time, if you live outside The US you can participate too. I will mail via First Class Mail, doesn't matter where you live. Deal? Good.
O'Reilly media have donated some books to me and this is the second one I will send to a lucky winner.
Comments won't be published till Monday, November 17th. I will draw one name that same day.
** Edited to add: wrong answer is not valid. Look for my birthday post. If you wanna come back and try it again, it's all right. Comment regarding this giveaway on another post is not valid either. Sorry. I just wanna keep things organized and fair to everyone. Thanks!
I won't be able to type much today, because I cut my finger last night and it's a bit painful...
I had planned to list cushions in my shop, but I loved it so much on my couch and I am sure that the second one is going to look as pretty as this one. Lately, I find myself enjoying my home as never before. It's a feeling of satisfaction, a feeling that was hidden somewhere inside me or maybe I was too distracted with other things that made me neglect my home. Maybe I was not confident of living in this city for very long, because since I've married we have been moving around Arizona.
I am excited! I am enjoying domesticity! I have so many plans and projects in mind to revamp our home...these wishes, these feelings, these plans are finally overtaking the need of selling things for people. I still need to express myself, creating, making things but maybe not for sale anymore. I don't know. Perhaps ocasionally. I am enjoying the moment.
If you are searching for a book to learn some sewing, I recommend this one. I've learned to make my cushions following the instructions on the book and look at this zipper...it turned out really well!
Corduroy and embroidered linen are from Joann. The vintage pineapple doily and buttons from a local antique shop.
I had to add some pink stitches on the doily...I think it looks pretty!
And my children love when I make something for the house...they were staring at this cushion for some minutes with a big smile. Priceless!
Six people left a comment with the right answer. My favorite color is red. Thank you! I used the website below to generate a number between 1 and 6 and Annie was the third person to comment on that particular post.
Annie, I need your address. Send it to blog(at)pixieblossoms.com
Yay, my first clipping! I start with Etsy. Things to look, things to admire, things to inspire, things to buy...things to love. You name it. I like making mosaics like these and mixing up items and finding matching colors! Have you seen Polyvore? I did not play on it yet, but seems to be fun if we have some time to kill!! I am just a bit concerned about the credits given to people's images. I don't mind when people post my photos on their blogs as long as they link to me, it's fine and I've seen showcases and clippings all over the web lately. It's cool. Who doesn't like a bit of promotion?
As I've promised, I will draw a winner for this book, "The Digital Photography Companion" by Derrick Story, sent to me by O'Reilly media. You can read reviews about the book here.
To enter, you must answer one question. What is my favorite color? Yes, not difficult. If you follow this blog since the beggining you will find the answer. there is one post where I wrote about my favorite color. You can guess, but only the ones that have the right answer will have the chance to get the book. I know a lot of people don't like "giveway homework", but there is Google Alerts to serve people that is only after giveaways in blogland (and nothing else - I am not against that, don't get me wrong) but some of you come here often and read all my blabs and I think it's fair to make it harder.
Another rule is that this contest is open for residents of Canada and USA only. I won't be able to ship to other countries due shipping costs. Sorry.
You have one week to search and drop a comment with the right answer and the country you live in. Start from the beggining and you won't search for very long! Next Saturday, November 8th you we will know the winner.
Have a great Sunday!
* Edited to add: Comments won't show for the public till next week. No cheating!
