Saturday, September 20, 2008Hoop Hoop HoorayI could not come here earlier to blog once more during the week. I've got the cold. I am better, much better now, but I reserved the time to finish these super delicate embroidery hoops... Yay, the photos are huge!!! I love huge photos on blogs. The bigger the better! These are so spring like...and I just love spring too! This blue/flowered fabric is a vintage find. I've listed four of them in my shop this afternoon and I have 3 more to list tomorrow. I just could not finish taking photos and editing all of them...man, I tell you...I take more than one hour to edit just a dozen of photos!! I am not sure what's gonna be this week, I mean which project I will start...I've been planning to make different things every week and do it all in a batch. At this time I've finished six hoops. I am trying to be organized and more persistent to finish what I start. I have a box full with things that I never have finished. Are you like that too? It's because sometimes that not so nice feeling of "why am I doing all these things?" happens and I won't enter my playroom for several days. So, I am pulling all the fabric wasted, all the pieces that I had cut in the past and taking my time to use whatever I can, instead of buying more stuff. I think I will finally try some collages on canvas. I've been procrastinating to start them. I want something with a vintage look, for kids' room. Colorful, playful...hmmm I am salivating. I will show you my wip next days! My hoops were featured on this blog last week! Pretty cool blog full of craft ideas and showcases ! See you soon! Monday, September 15, 2008Pixie Blossoms Embroidered Hoops :: WIP {work in progress}One of the lots of things I like about blogging is the opportunity to show to my readers and clients the process of my creations. The so called wip or work in progress posts. At least for me visiting other bloggers and seeing their wip photos {once in a while} is always some sort of motivation. I've been working to supply my little shop with sweet items. There are many ideas to use an embroidery hoop as a nice decor for the walls. You probably have seen these all over blogland. Aren't they cute? I came up with the idea of using darling floral fabrics {patchwork} and linen to make some romantic, delicate adorns for the walls. Great for kids room and perfect gift for a mom to be! The embroidery designs are by me. I usually don't have copies of them, because I draw direct on the linen. Sooo, these darlings are totally unique! I made one for my son's teacher with the name of her baby embroidered on linen and it looks too cute. I hope she likes it. I forgot to photograph it today, I will show you next time. I have plans to make speacial patterns for free and for sale. Coming soon! Yes, I've enjoyed the weekend. One step at the time. I've learned that when I make things in a batch, it's faster and rewarding. It was hard to believe in this simple way of making, finishing, completing...but it is true. I've been writing down all the projects I would like for this season, organizing my thoughts. Although fall is by the corner I am still into spring and summer colors. My stash of fabric is being reduced after this {below}. I need a scissors for left handed. I am left handed! I don't use the rotary cutter. I tried. I am better with scissors. I love this one... Next? Well, I think I will have pillows and and a special baby blanket with lovely details on it. These hoops will be listed on next Saturday, September 20th in the afternoon {Arizona time}. See you again very soon during this week...if you would like to make sugestions about anything I could make...just drop your message! Thursday, September 11, 2008Relaxing and Stitching...It's been 7 years. This is one of those days that we will never forget. My husband was visiting me in Brazil at that time. His plane was schedule to depart that afternoon to come back home. My mom came in the room and astonished said to turn on the tv because something really bad was happening in The USA. We did. We were speechless. My husband is an american citizen. He put his hands on his face and cried. My eyes were wide open. It's been 7 years and we can't forget it... We must go on, hu?! *** So...let me share a bit of my place to relax and stitch while my children play in the backyard. This set of coffe table and chairs we got in a garage sale for a great price... These flowers took forever to bloom but they are finally adorning a corner of the backyard... All perennials...don't you just love them? I can't believe I found dried sage leaves in a store around here...it's used by many indigenous cultures in rituals for cleansing, purifying and protecting the physical and spiritual bodies. These days when we have all sorts of not so nice people wandering around and evil souls that whish not good stuff for us, sage might work. Gotta give it a try. It's also very popular in Brazil (at least I think is the same herb, the scent is similar). My dad uses it sometimes in his house and my mom is a Protestant Methodist and she doesn't like when he burns the thing. I am not an atheist...I believe in possibilities! And two nice books that I got another day. If you are looking for a greener Christmas, this book is very nice. Great craft projects and recipes for yummy snacks. I really like to make stuff using natural materials that I can find in the nature... The blue book is called "Changing Your Course" and here are some words from the book for you: Do * Put your past behind you. * Recognize that all of your choices have consequences, which in turn affect how you feel about your life. *Make a firm decision right now to change some aspect of your life for the better. Don't * Allow past decisions to affect your future. *Feel sorry for yourself. *Let regrets bring you down. I love green tea. Decaf, please. Embroidery is addictive. In the same shop I bought sage, I got this shirt (below). It's so pretty, isn't it? I love details in everything... Cheers! Finally... It's ready to go to California! Sorry people, I've listed it last night in my shop and it's sold. Super fast! WOW! I will make some more...what do you think??? I will be busy next days. Enjoy the last days of Summer! Monday, July 28, 2008Gabriela :: New BagI just listed in my Etsy shop where you will see more photos of it. Wow, this one was so fun but at the same time a lot of work. The botton was something else to work it, because I don't have an industrial sewing machine ( something for really heavy duty stuff) so I had to give my heart to it and sew by hand all around with that huge tapestry needle and yarn. Not easy as it seems. The interface is thick and my fingers got hurt! Labels: burlap and jute, drawstring bag, handmade, handmade bag, patchwork, sewing
Tuesday, July 8, 2008To be or not to be?Hubby says: "Can you do something less colorful, less floral? I mean it's nice what you make, but I think people like plain, one or two colors stuff." Me: "Well, but this is me, hubby. I already had this thinking of making plain things, but these colorful results are part of my personality and my culture, I guess. I know I can do something plain, but I won't be happy with it. I know there are a lot of people that would never wear a red shirt. But I do. I like it bold. I like it strong. I wanna do what I like and sorry, I can't please all the people". This conversation we had several weeks ago...to be or not to be so colorful? I prefer to be. If you like it, stay with me. If you don't...say bye. The sun shines for everyone. My comment box remains closed and I am thinking about reopen it...maybe not. I have good reasons to not let people to comment here, I prefer e-mails at the moment. And today I took the kids to the community pool. Warm day, when the sun is not hidden behind the clouds. My skin is a bit red. Love this, but with lots of sunscreen, please! I heard that Hancock Fabrics is closing several shops in the country and the one in town is one of them. they had a huge sale and lots of stuff were sold for almost nothing. I got lots of Waverly samples like these below for 50 cents each... And this (below) I started last night...Will you guess what is this? You don't need to. If you wait, you will see. Hopefully it will work perfectly. Burlap is so very cool to work with...love it. Labels: burlap, crafts, handmade, handmade by me, patchwork
